The second is a body of macroeconomic and structural data covering inflation, currency, wages, the labour market, the social protection system, the cumulative impact of the wars of 2025 and 2026, and the para-state capture of the Iranian economy.

A cessation of hostilities that imposes nothing on the end of internal repression is not peace: it is a reprieve granted to the coercive apparatus, not to the Iranian people. The distinction is strategic as much as moral. A framework that severs the security of transit from the fate of imprisoned Iranians effectively prolongs the impunity of the very system it claims to contain.

The 2026 crisis around the Strait of Hormuz cannot be understood merely as an episode of military confrontation. It represents the most recent — and most acute — manifestation of a constitutive strategic pathology of the Islamic Republic of Iran: the structural incapacity to convert a tactical advantage into a political outcome, to cash in a victory at the right moment.
